Architecture

Our team went to many places in Brickfields from schools to temples, each building has its own architectural styles brought from its own culture.

There are directions for the blind people throughout Brickfields. These directions were built for the blind peoples from the school for the blind men that was situated in Brickfields to ensure their safety and let them feel secured.

School for the blind

Our first stop was the school for the blind, its name was Persatuan Bagi Orang Buta Malaysia which literally means Organisation for the blind peoples of Malaysia. The buildings architectural design is quite modern because it was built around 1997 to 1999.

The inside of the school is filled with directions for the blind. The blinds can use their white canes to sense the different patterns of the floor tiles which will tell them where they were.

KL MONORAIL TUN SAMBANTHAN

According to sources from the internet, the Tun Sambanthan monorail station was formerly known as Sultan Sulaiman monorail station. This monorail station is situated near the school for the blind and its part of the Kuala Lumpur monorail line. The station looks quite old but it was well-preserverd.

A map which shows the map of Kuala Lumpur and the KL monorail line. It also shows the landmarks nearby the KL monorail line and the Tun Sambanthan station.

METHODIST COLLEGE

Our next stop is a college just beside the Tun Sambathan monorail station. This college was founded as a private educational institution in January 1983 by the Methodist Council of Education. The building's design was simple and common.

There were many plants in the college that clearly shows that the college promotes greenery. The drinking water provided was treated with UV ray so that it does not contain any contaminations.

The sculpture in the left picture is the logo of the college.

BUDDHIST MAHAVIHARA

This Buddhist site was founded by the Sinhalese community. The Sinhalese were predominantly Theravada Buddhism, which is the oldest surviving branch of Buddhism, the word Theravada means "The Teachings of the Elders".Although this place was founded nearly 60 years ago, it is very well-preserved.

The architectural design here is unique and unlike any other buddist temple nearby, it is a blend of modern desgins and Sinhalese culture from Sri Lanka. Many sculptures made of concrete can be found on the floors and the walls.

The Theravada Buddhism is closer to the early Buddhism than any other existing Buddhist traditions, this is why people around came to this place to pray. This place has a kind of serenity which provides a peace of mind to the visitors and the prayers

The little india

Along the way we passed by the town of little india. The amount of vehicles was more compared to the other places of Brickfield that we had been to.

There were many indian style gate-like pillars along the street of the town. The buildings there were old fashioned compared to the more modern part of the town nearby as seen in the picture to the left. Most of the buildings there were painted purple colour.

A unique sculpture beside the main road of the town, it looks like a woman dancing alone.

KL CITY AIR TERMINAL

The Kl City Air Terminal leads straight to the KLIA, Kuala Lumour International Airport. Flight check-in can be done in this place. The place has a simple design similar to the LCCT, Low-Cost carrier terminal which is situated not far from KLIA.

Three teachings Chinese Temple (san jiao)

This Chinese Temple was build more than 20 years but the existing of the god almost more than 150 years. In this chinese temple the indoor design look simple because the lifestyle of the monk is as simple as abc. They never have luxury life and not intend to have it. They feel that their spritual is rich when they are close to god. In this moment we can learnt about life is like a flow of water where ever you go you must accept the faith. You must be happy what you have now and not to compare the past and present. When your life is tough we should not blame or wait your friend, family member or someone to help you. You should find out the way by yourself so that you can understand the meaning of life.

Indoor design

outdoor design

Those picture is the outdoor design of (san jiao) chinese temple. The design of the temple is intricate especiallly the dragon statues. The design of the temple is only base on crafting by the proffesional craftsman day by day and hand by hand. It is quiet back -breaking to complete the temple. I can feel that the craftmans have put  a lot of passion and effort to finish up this temple but the important thing of the temple is not the intricate design is actually the knowledge of (san jiao) which was keep inside since 150 year ago.

This is the knowledge of being a good son. During the ancient time, their son will always sacrific themselve to make their parent happy by doing those movement which had showed on the wall of the temple in the form of picture. It is quiet shame or sad to our young generation which did not apply it and forget about those knowledges which have been past by our ancestor.

Sri Kandaswamy Temple Built in 1902, is one of the most famous Sri Lankan Tamil temples in Malaysia,This beautifully coloured temple showcases carvings of spactacular proportions that exemplify Sri Lankan Tamil architecture. It is said to be inspired by the "Nallur Kandaswamy" temple in "Jaffna", Sri Lanka. In my opinion, Temple carvings on Indian temples in general depict scenes of gods and godesses and activites that would have taken place in the heavens. there are many other reasons for these carvings, some, tell stories with deep meaning.
Pure works of art!

Unfortunately we were'nt allow to take pictures of the temple interior due to historical preservation and other reasons.

There are facilities for washing feet and hands which is a must before entering the temple. Devotees and guests are required to remove all footwear. This rule applies for all Indian temples anywhere in the world.
