People and Activities

People in Brickfields are very kind and helpful, some of them provided directions for us and some explained to us the historical background Brickfields.

One of the caretaker of the Sam Kow Tong temple was kind enough to tell us a brief history of the temple and what Brickfields was like in the past. He also gave us some advice of buddhist teachings so that we could live a happy life.

He explained all the drawings on the wall to us so that we know where the stories came from and the moral that we should learn from the stories.

The older people of Brickfields like to spend their mornings chatting with old friends or reading a newspaper in a restaurant. They lead a healthy lifestyle by waking up early.

The church pastor was generous enough to spend his time on us although he had an important call to take. He too like the worker of the Sam Kow Tong temple gave us all the information we need on that church, he even let us have a look of the inside of the church eventhough its locked on that day.

There were many flower shops situated in the little india. Most of the shopkeepers were found sitting on a chair and grouping all the flowers up, some were busy tieing to flowers together to make an ornament out of it.

In Brickfield, most of the teenager will spend their leisure time to learn some skills such as playing instrument, dancing, marshall art or others. In this picture, show that there are some teenagers are learning Karate from his master which is call "sensei". During this time, they learn a lot of self defending skills and I think it is a good type of exercise.

Milk Vendors come by almost everyday selling fresh cows milk and coconuts at good prices. This milk van has been parked infront of the Sri Kandaswamy Temple. The vendors purpose for doing this is to sell the milk to temple devotees with the intenntion of using the milk/coconut as offerings to the gods in the temple. Those who arent praying can also purchase them aswell.

This Milk vendor strategically parks his van near condos and housing areas

Maybe competition with the vendor shown above. Who knows?

Many people come to him for fresh milk as it is really really fresh.
